The Story of Our First 6,000 Trees – How a Forest Grows in Just a Few Years

At the end of September, we visited Nyíradony to see how our first 6,000 trees have grown. This is where their story began, on a plot of approximately 1.5 hectares, and you are part of that story, too. If you are the owner of one of the trees numbered 1 to 6,000, this post may feel especially personal to you.

But what happens to a forest after planting?

During the first few years, young saplings still need our help. The land requires regular maintenance, including harrowing and weed control. This gives the young trees the conditions they need to grow and prevents them from having to compete with surrounding vegetation for light and nutrients.

Once the trees have grown strong enough, the forest can increasingly develop through natural processes. Our site in Nyíradony no longer requires regular aftercare, and the tiny saplings have now grown into a self-sustaining forest.

Look how much our trees have grown!

We’ve brought you a few photos showing the incredible transformation this area has undergone in approximately five years. Beyond documenting the trees’ growth, these images also tell a story of how collective action can lead to tangible results. Planting a single tree may seem like a small step, but many individual decisions, combined with care and commitment, can lead to wonderful results like this.

There is a widely quoted saying that feels particularly relevant to our story: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”

We hope the story of our forest in Nyíradony inspires you, too. If you’d like to be part of turning the saplings planted today into a forest in the years to come, join us!

Let’s continue writing the story of a greener future together!
